Habit 3 Put First Things First

Have you ever tried to do something but you don’t do it in time? That’s why you should use Habit 3 Put first things first.

One Saturday afternoon, I was at my house and my neighbor came to the door. She asked me if I would clean her yard for $45. The only catch was that it had to be done by Tuesday. Since it was Saturday, that gave me plenty of time to do it……at least that’s what I thought.Screen Shot 2016-05-02 at 1.50.00 PM

The next day I was playing games and I thought about the job. It was only Sunday, so i thought cleaning the yard could wait another day. So I just kept on playing my games!

When I went to school the next day, I noticed my neighbor was talking about how he wanted a new watch, But he needed money.

On Tuesday I completely forgot to clean my neighbors yard until I went to school and my other neighbor had a new watch. I asked him where he got it. He said he cleaned his neighbor’s yard and got $45. “He took my job!” I thought. “You shouldn’t have put it off!” I scolded myself.

This story is a prime example of why you should always use Habit 3 “Put first things first”.

The End!!!!!

More Ways Than One

A lot of people want to be successful in life? Right? If they want to be successful, they must use the 1st habit, Be Proactive. Being Proactive means getting things done.

If you ever run into a problem, or something that is stopping you from doing something you know you can, go another way. Say you’re while trying to do something, you get stuck, and can’t solve or make something. You could figure it out another way. Use another tool or technique to find another solution.

For example, if you are fixing a computer, and you don’t know what tool to use to take out the graphics card. you could just leave it in there, but is that fixing it? No, you can figure out what tool to use and get the job done faster. See how being proactive can help you achieve your goal? I was goofing off at the beginning when writing this, but then I started to be proactive and I got it done.

Book Review: The 5th Wave

Screen Shot 2016-04-26 at 2.04.35 PMThe 5th Wave is a book about aliens invading earth. In this book, the humans have to use many of the Seven Habits to survive.

The main habit that I want to focus on from the story is Be Proactive. Be Proactive is the first habit. In one scene, a sniper is shooting a 50. caliber round at one of the good guys named Cassie. Cassie has to find cover, which in her case is under a Buick. When Cassie was running for the Buick she got shot by the sniper. She uses a belt to survive by tying it around her leg to slow the blood loss.

While Cassie is under the car she also has a handgun near her. She keeps an M16 by her side. She waits under the car until she has the cover of darkness to escape. She does this so she will not be followed.

This is just a part of the story of how the book The 5th Wave and the characters in the story use the Seven Habits.

Habit 6: Synergize

There is something called the 7 Habits. One of them is Synergize. Synergize is a habit about teamwork. It shows how teamwork can give you an advantage on doing something and maybe being able to do something faster.stronger-together2

For example, You can work together on a project and get it done quicker if you are doing the right thing. You can also Synergize in a sport by communicating
and having an advantage over other people. At school I have used habit number 6 Synergize when I work with a partner on an assignment.

Synergizing is a good way of getting things done quickly, but you have to do it in the right way.

Habit #5 : Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood

h5The way I use habit five, “Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood” is by listening to others and understanding before speaking.

For example, when I’m doing math homework and I get stuck on a problem, I ask for help from someone and see if they need some too. if I ask them politely and nicely, they will help.  Another example is I sometimes have accidents that are problems that I can’t fix or figure out, so I ask for help. If I need a book in the library, I ask the librarian to help me find the book.

So thats how you can Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood!

Habit #2- Begin With the End in Mind

To me,  Habit #2 – Begin with the End in Mind means to always have a plan and not to do everything at the last second. It also helps you know what to do and when to do it, instead of asking someone else when to do something.

A student I interviewed said, “I think that begin with the end in mind means always have a plan before you do something no matter what.” Begin With the End in Mind helps you know how to do something and when to do something and where to do it.”

Have you ever worked at a lemonade stand? A lemonade stand is a great example of Habit 2 because you have to know how much lemonade to give your customer and what the price is for every size cup. What I’m getting to is that you need to know what to do and plan everything out before you do something. So why not go ahead and plan and use Begin With the End in Mind to help get through life easier.

Habit #4 : Think Win-Win

Have you ever used Habit 4 Think Win-Win? Well, in my life I try to use Habit 4 as much as I can. For example, if my brother wants to borrow something then I will let him use it. In chapter four of The 7 Habits of Happy Kids book, Lily plants a garden and she thinks win-win.

Can you make a connection or relate to a time you used habit #4 think win-win. Habit 4 think win-win means to have an open mind and be creative!

For example, I have a friend named Ashley and one day we wanted to play a game. But guess what? Ashley wanted to play Hide and Go Seek and I wanted to play Tag. So we both decided we needed to be creative and play a game we both can agree on.

Then my mom said, “How about you all play “Hide and Go Tag”. We were both so happy we could agree on a game. It turns out it was a really fun game, you should try it some time? Now, that you know about Habit 4 next time you get into a really sticky situation, you can use Think Win-Win!

Habit 3 Put First Things First

Have you ever played video games for a week, then when the big test comes you get bad grade? Well that is because you did not use Habit 3. You should have studied then played games. This is also known as “putting first things first”.

In the 7 Habits Book, Pokey your spiny friend laid in his hammock all week, not studying, and he got an F. Next week he studied all week and got an A. So put first things first and don’t be stuck in the F town. How will you put first things first?

Field Day is Coming! Field Day is Coming!

Did you know that Field Day is coming? I hope you do! I know that I am super exited for my Field Day, and I really hope that you are exited for your field day, too.

There is a question that I think you will ask, if you haven’t asked it already. When is field day? K-5 through 1st grade will have field day on Tuesday, May 13th. 2nd and 3rd grade field day is on Wednesday, May 14th. 4th and 5th grade field day is on Wednesday, May 15th.

I’m pretty sure that we are having the same activities as we did in the past, like the Bat Spin, Helicopter, and Balloon Pop. We will also have other fun activities that day! I’m looking forward to it. Are you excited for your Field Day?

Habit #6 Synergize

To me, Habit #6 Synergize, means to work together, value other peoples strengths and learn from and about them. Working together is better for your life. It helps you, so that when you meet someone new you can learn to help each other you won’t make fun of them and laugh at them. Also you can work together and have some experience for when you work with others and you can help others and not make them mad or be mean. When I interviewed Mr. Swann said,”To me synergizing is when two or more people work together for a common cause. For example, Mrs. Taylor and I synergize when we work together on our plan for the learning Commons.” so why wont you use synergize and work together while doing your work.
